Frequently Asked Questions

When you hire us, you’re paying for the creation of visual content — not ownership of it.
Photography and videography produce digital assets, which are considered intellectual property. Unlike a physical product, images and videos don’t change hands in the traditional sense. The creator retains ownership, and clients are granted permission to use the content through a license.
Most of us interact with licensed content every day. Movies, music, digital courses, eBooks, stock footage — all of these are licensed, not owned. Visual content works the same way.
Think back to when you bought a movie or song digitally. You could watch or listen whenever you wanted, but you didn’t own the underlying content. You couldn’t resell it, give it to another company for advertising, or claim it as your own. You purchased the right to use it. Photography and video licensing follow that same model.
A content creation analogy
When we create photos or videos, we’re producing a custom creative asset — similar to designing a brand system or building a website.
We can either:
Transfer full ownership (commonly called work for hire), or
Retain ownership and provide usage rights through licensing
Full ownership is significantly more expensive because it transfers all rights permanently. In most cases, we retain ownership and provide licenses, allowing clients to use the content for specific purposes at a more accessible cost.
This approach keeps pricing fair while ensuring the content is used intentionally and professionally.

A photo or video license is a legal agreement that grants you permission to use specific images or video assets in defined ways.
When you purchase a license, you’re purchasing the right to use the content — not ownership of the files themselves.
Licenses typically outline:
Where the content can be used (website, social media, ads, etc.)
Who can use it
How long it can be used
Any limitations on distribution or publication
Some uses — such as editorial placements, national advertising, or resale — require additional written approval so we can be involved in that process.
-
Anyone who is not the creator of the content needs a license in order to use it.
If you booked the shoot directly with us, your license is included as part of the project.
If you did not book the shoot, you must obtain a license directly from us — even if another party says you can use the content.
Permission from a third party does not replace a valid license from the copyright holder.
-
Our standard business license is designed to support modern marketing and content creation workflows.
You may use the photos and videos for:
Business marketing and advertising
Social media and digital platforms
Websites and portfolios
Print and web-based promotional materials
You may not:
Sell or resell the content
Publish or distribute the content beyond the licensed scope without written consent
Share raw or final files with another business or individual
If another party (builder, designer, brand partner, publication, etc.) wants to use the content, please connect them with us and we’ll issue a license directly to them.
You may crop content, resize it, and add branding or text overlays. You may not apply filters, color changes, or edits that alter the original creative style or integrity of the work.

Licensing protects the value of creative work and ensures content is used responsibly.
Without licensing, photos and videos could be reused, redistributed, or monetized by third parties without context, credit, or compensation. Licensing provides clarity, protects intellectual property, and ensures everyone involved understands how the content can and cannot be used.
It also allows us to maintain quality control over how our work represents both our brand and yours.

No. Once content has been delivered and licensing rights have been granted, licenses are non-refundable.
Digital content functions much like a digital purchase or subscription — once access and usage rights are provided, the transaction is complete. Because the content is intangible and immediately usable, licenses cannot be revoked or refunded after delivery.
We always encourage clients to confirm intended usage before purchasing a license so everything is aligned from the start.
